Rider Thank You

Dear Riders, Sponsors, Supporters and Volunteers,

We couldn’t be happier or more proud of everyone involved in making the 2011 Edible Pedal 100™ a great success. Thank you for an outstanding first year event! Due to your overwhelming support we were able to donate more money to more beneficiaries than planned.

We’re excited to support Urban Roots with a $10,000 donation that will help purchase solar panels to power The Farm and outdoor kitchen.

From Josie Luciano, Executive Director of Urban Roots:
“The Urban Roots Farm will play an essential role in reaching more schools as its presence will allow us to expand our reach from two partner schools and 900 students to 30 schools and over 5,000 students as the farm serves as a hub for direct student programming and training. In the coming year, we will support school gardens and seed-to-table education in the following ways:

  • Host 30 schools from Washoe County School District at the Urban Roots Farm for field trips and directed programming (approximately 600 students). These schools have the option of participating in our Hobby Garden, Garden Classroom, or Sustainable Schools programs.
  • Run several summer camps at The Urban Roots Farm in 2012 (approximately 180 students)”

Beyond our donation to Urban Roots, we couldn’t think of a better home for the additional proceeds than to donate to the groups that helped make the ride successful (and they’re all involved in cycling, local food and youth!) We’re thrilled to announce the 2011 Edible Pedal 100™ fundraiser’s recipients:

  • Urban Roots Garden Classrooms—$10,000.00
  • WCSD Academy of Arts, Careers and Technology Culinary Program—$1,000.00 scholarship

  • Lake Tahoe Backcountry Bike Patrol—$500.00
  • Tahoe Pyramid Bikeway—$300.00

From the bottom of my heart and on behalf of the Rotary Club of Reno Sunrise and edible Reno-Tahoe magazine, we thank you all for your generosity, faith and patience. Whether you rode; volunteered; donated money, equipment, expertise; raised an animal; grew food; baked a treat; brewed a beverage; or roasted beans, please know you have truly made a difference in our community.

Thank you!
